Anna Kuhn's Mid-Century Makeover

When Anna Kuhn first contacted us, she sent us a photo of her entryway that sums up a lot of the "Before" photos we receive.
There wasn't anything inherently wrong with the door and sidelight; both functioned well and were obviously in good condition. But their 1950's home, a traditional mid-century ranch with a backyard that looks out on downtown Austin, needed something that both complimented the original aesthetic and still worked with their contemporary sense of style. Anna and her husband had knocked down walls just inside the entrance in order to open up the home, and in doing so sent light from the picture window in the back through the front door.
A "Pasadena" in birch with wide reeded glass and matching sidelight best complimented Anna's taste which we call "comfortable modern." Her choice of interior decoration evokes the simplicity and grace of mid-century modernism but utilizes contemporary elements such as natural tones highlighted by splashes of colorful art that soften the starkness of the wood floors and stone fireplace. In all, the replacement of the Texas Star door and sidelight modernized yet soothed the appearance of the entire home.
Anna was very pleased with the results, and told us, "I got an email from our Realtor saying she had been driving through our neighborhood, LOVED the new front door, and wanted to know where we got it because she's looking for a door for her own house!" |
