Modern Charlotte's Perfect Atomic Ranch
Lots of light, vibrant color, and designer touches complete this mid-century makeover featuring the “Langston” in eye-catching aqua.

Realtor Gail Jodon of Modern Charlotte Realty represents mid-century modern homes in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is the only broker that exclusively works the modern market. From split level cottages to cubist compounds, Jodon’s listings feature an array of styles from the 20th century.
Currently for sale is a cozy house at 3111 Spring Valley Road. It was featured in Historic Charlotte’s Mid-Century Modern Home Tour in the spring of 2009 as the perfect “Atomic Ranch Home”. Built in 1961, the house has been tastefully restored from top to bottom without sacrificing contemporary comfort.
The front of the home is concealed by a wall of decorative concrete screen block. An enclosed river rock garden enhances the landscaping of the private yard and deck. Turn the path and you are greeted by the “Langston” in bright blue.

Jodon points to the vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, walls of glass and open floorplan as more authentic touches from the 60’s. But updates, like thermal windows and sliding bedroom doors, make the modest footprint of the home more comfortable.

“Lowell Galindo and his wife Kristin did such a wonderful job,” Jodon describes. “Inappropriate front doors can make selling a house that much harder. You can’t help but love the fabulous Crestview door that adorns this one!”
In the kitchen, new stainless steel appliances accentuate the Modwalls tile backsplash that matches the front door.

“This home really is a perfect example of mid-century modern design,” says Jodon. “We don’t have many new modernist houses here, but if you’re looking for that great little atomic ranch house, Charlotte is the place to be.”
